In the FFH site „Weier- und Winterbach“, targeted measures were carried out in February 2026 on a total of 1.5 hectares for a long term preservation of valuable open-land areas. Non-native tree species and scrub encroachment were removed to maintain the typical open-land structure.
These measures are of central importance for the conservation of the endangered, locally native mountain hay meadows (habitat type 6520). At the same time, they help safeguard the habitat of the violet copper butterfly, whose population has declined sharply in recent years.
The red kite also benefits from the emerging mosaic landscape, using the open land to search for food while utilizing the adjacent forest as a breeding site.
