After the winter break, between 15,000 and 20,000 caterpillars are currently active in the breeding tent. In the aerarium, the caterpillars can hardly be kept fed anymore. For the second consecutive year, the reintroduction of the Marsh Fritillary in the project area was started in spring. The caterpillars were taken from the breeding tent and transported in jars on devil’s-bit scabious leaves.

Already in April, 5,000 caterpillars were released at seven sites in the FFH site “Buchheller-Quellgebiet” and in the nature reserve “Mückewies”.

Last year, 165 caterpillars were reintroduced in the FFH site “Buchheller-Quellgebiet”.

In total, 15,000 caterpillars are planned to be released this year at ten sites in rotational fallows and meadows.
